Internet Applications |
| The computer is evolving at a incredible rate. This means
programming changes, systems change, and the method we create programs change. It seems to
be a never ending battle just to keep up. Staying ahead of those changes can be difficult
if not impossible. In a fast pace world, there are many options offered up; which program
will grow, and which will fall by the wayside is unclear. The high tech world is exactly
like that, many programming options and a variety of ways to achieve the same goal are
conceived, some will succeed, most will fail. However, it is clear from the past that one
or two will rise to the top and become the basis for how things are done. That is exactly
where we are today, in state of flux, especially with the added potentials of the
Internet. Our computer model in the past has been a desktop unit with a powerful processor, as much ram as possible, and a permanent media storage of a large capacity. The programming was always designed to work in this specific environment. While this is unlikely to change soon, it is no longer the only option. The Internet has redefined the computer model. Today we call the computer both the unit on our desktop and everything it is connected to, file servers or Internet Servers. Everything from how we install software, how it interacts with us, how we store it, |
and how we pay for it is changing due to this change in computer
models. The Internet is dictating to hardware designers as well as software programmers
how to their conduct business. With the dawn of SmartCards it is clear they offer an advantage for portability, security, and capacity that our current plastic cards cannot offer. How these "new breed' of cards will interact with the Internet is what our SmartCard control is all about. We have developed a device control for SmartCards that can interact with existing technology and evolve into the future with expected changes in both hardware and software. Using ActiveX, we create an environment that remains platform dependent, but the cards remain a pure "open system" of encrypted data and thanks to the Internet. Many different operating systems can access the web site and use a separate version of the same ActiveX control to share an identical data set. This in turn making the portable SmartCard data available to all who need it. Please read the pages that are linked from this one to further understand why we choose ActiveX and how to use the control for your SmartCard application. There is a law of Physics that states objects flow in the path of least resistance. It is clear, with 80 million users of Windows, that the growth of SmartCards for a multitude of applications, ActiveX offers the least resistant path to program your Internet and SmartCard Application. |
