The Challenges
The administrative challenges of providing quality healthcare services present hospitals
with an endless number of daily hurdles. These often include: Ensuring staff are up
to date on the latest policies, procedures, and techniques. Providing patients with
necessary pre- and post-care information. Reducing costs, and generating revenue
wherever possible. |
|
A
major teaching hospital in the Northeastern United States had for years been using an
education system based on standard VCR/TV technology and staff training based on CD-ROM/PC
technology.
The limitations encountered with this system included the following:
- only one patient at a time could view the same video tape
- system response has slow
- tape speed and video quality deteriorated significantly over repeated usage
- no method of tracking and evaluating prescribed regulatory training
- different operational procedures and system for patient and staff training
- no potential for cost saving or increased revenues
|
|
| The hospital needed an integrated solution that could support: Network based
delivery of video, and interactive courseware to desktop PCs for staff training, Coaxial
cable based deliver of video, and a range of interactive services to TVs, including
video-on-demand for education and entertainment. The system would need to provide
complete tracking of all content usage to meet regulatory training requirements and to
support all revenue generating services. |
|
| To meet these demanding requirements the hospital chose to install a pilot
system incorporating the IVT interactive television system with Video Server system. |

Administration
Room availability can be instantly
tracked. |

 |
Environmental Services Enables environmental services staff to track clean room
availability. |
The appropriate computer terminals, or people, in the hospital are notified that a room is
available. For admitting the IVT open system architecture allows direct interface to
the hospitals room occupancy systems

The Movie System can
be easily and cost-effectively scaled to support up to 2.5 terabytes of digital video. The
cornerstone of MediaCluster is SeaChange's Video Server 100. MediaCluster enables
multiple Video Servers to be combined as a single virtual system, delivering video with
guaranteed, uninterrupted throughput - without replication.
All products are supported seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Remote monitoring capabilities provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and
management to ensure your system continues to deliver. Our systems are built for
performance. |
With IVT, hospitals can provide fully automated entertainment television services to
patients 24 hours a day, without the requirement of staff. Patients can view educational
programming at no charge, or at the hospitals option, provide tiered television
rental services from sources such as cable, satellite/DBS broadcasts, or on a pay-per-view
basis. Where service is available, cash collection in the hospital can be eliminated by
interfacing IVT to third party invoice and collection companies. All entertainment charges
are sent to these companies electronically, for collection on the patients home
telephone bill. |
