About HData
HData is the AI-native operating system for energy regulation.
Serving the largest customer ecosystem in regulated energy, HData helps utilities, regulators, advocates, advisory firms, corporates and energy technology companies navigate regulatory complexity. Through centralized data and purpose-built solutions, HData accelerates the research, analysis and workflows critical to how the future of energy is decided.
Our Story
HData was founded in 2018 by Hudson Hollister, who previously worked to transform many government regulatory regimes from disconnected documents into open and standardized data. He founded the Data Coalition and the Data Foundation, the nation’s leading open data industry organizations and drafted the DATA Act of 2014 and the GREAT Act of 2019. In 2015, Hudson’s advocacy team began working with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to transform energy regulatory reporting into standardized data, using the XBRL data format.
HData entered the energy regulatory data market in 2020. The team sought to combine compliance and business intelligence solutions on a single platform, allowing energy accountants, business leaders, and regulatory professionals to easily manage and understand the information that energy companies report to regulators. Co-Founder Yuval Lubowich created a development team with decades of experience in building simple, intuitive, and flexible applications on standardized data.
In 2021, HData was selected to participate in the Techstars Alabama EnergyTech Accelerator, the world’s only technology accelerator for early-stage companies focused on the utilities sector.
By using technology to reduce manual, burdensome tasks for regulatory professionals, HData supports the energy industry in moving toward greater efficiency, consistency, and transparency in regulatory data and decision-making. We are a venture-backed Techstars company with investment from firms including Buoyant Ventures, Hyde Park Venture Partners, and Firebrand Ventures. We have 200 customers including large utilities such as NextEra Energy, PG&E, and Southern Company, as well as state regulatory commissions, energy tech companies and policy advocates.
