Full Stack Software Engineer

Who We Are

Serving the largest customer ecosystem in regulated energy, HData helps utilities, regulators, advocates, advisory firms, and energy technology companies turn regulatory complexity into strategic advantage. By reducing the time and cost burdens of manual research and analysis, the HData platform enables teams to efficiently monitor regulatory developments, prepare for proceedings, mitigate potential risks, and confidently make decisions that consider comprehensive data.

We are a venture-backed Techstars company with investment from firms including Buoyant Ventures, Hyde Park Venture Partners, Firebrand Ventures, and MassMutual Ventures. We work closely with our customers to understand their pains, and we collaborate across all teams to build and deliver exceptional products.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer to help build the products and platform that sit at the center of HData's growth. As our regulatory data—spanning dockets, FERC filings, and rate cases—evolves into a sophisticated product ecosystem, we need engineers who can move fluidly across the stack: shipping polished frontend experiences, building reliable backend services, and integrating with the APIs and data infrastructure that power it all.

You'll work closely with Product Managers, Technical Leads, Data Engineers, and peer engineers to take features from design to production. This is a hands-on role with real ownership over what you build—you'll write code, participate in architecture decisions, and contribute to a codebase that real customers depend on.

Who You Are

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Take pride in engineering craft: your code is clean, your UIs are responsive, and you think about the person on the other end of what you build
  • Move comfortably across the stack: you can push a backend change and a frontend component in the same sprint without losing momentum
  • Are a collaborative teammate: you ask good questions, give useful code reviews, and make the people around you better
  • Communicate clearly about your work: able to talk through a technical decision with an engineer and explain a tradeoff to a PM without switching modes
  • Thrive in the pace of a growing company: limited resources, high stakes, decisions that matter

What You'll Do

Product & Feature Development (primary)

  • Build full-stack features across the HData platform: React frontends, C# backend services, and the APIs that connect them
  • Work from design and spec through implementation, testing, and production — taking real ownership of what you ship
  • Collaborate with Product and Design to deliver experiences that are fast, clear, and useful for HData's customers
  • Write tests, document your work, and participate actively in code review

API & Backend Engineering (shared)

  • Implement and integrate with internal and external APIs, contributing to the patterns and conventions that the team maintains
  • Build and maintain backend services that are reliable, observable, and easy for other engineers to work with
  • Partner with Technical Leads and Data Engineers to understand the underlying data infrastructure and build features that respect its constraints

What You Bring

  • Solid full-stack engineering experience (4+ years), with strong backend fundamentals and frontend experience in React
  • Proficiency in C# or a comparable backend language (Java, Go); SQL familiarity expected. Python experience is a plus. Our stack is primarily C#, and we find that engineers from adjacent languages ramp quickly
  • Experience building production web applications: from component design and state management on the frontend to service design and data modeling on the backend
  • Comfortable making cloud infrastructure decisions: when to reach for serverless, containers, or managed services, and the tradeoffs each brings
  • Fluent in enterprise SaaS concepts: multi-tenancy, event-driven architecture, REST APIs — even if your background is not exclusively enterprise
  • A collaborative working style: you can take direction from leads, push back when something seems off, and contribute to technical decisions without needing to drive every one

Bonus Points

  • Experience with search and retrieval systems (OpenSearch or Elasticsearch) and the data modeling decisions that make them fast and reliable at scale
  • Experience in or adjacent to regulated industries (energy, finance, healthcare, or legal/compliance)
  • Familiarity with API integration patterns: REST, webhooks, authentication flows, pagination

What We Value

  • Be kind
  • Think and act with humility
  • Be resourceful
  • Listen to others
  • Show empathy
  • Have fun and enjoy others

What We Offer

  • Equity: We offer equity to every employee at HData
  • Location: We’re a remote-based company. As long as you’re in the US, you can work from anywhere!
  • PTO: Flexible; we care about output not hours
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, 401k (with a match)

HData believes the best teams are built with people of different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We hire for talent, drive and values alignment, without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
